What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Winnipeg Supply Service Experts in Winnipeg always tells you about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it truly mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Winnipeg Supply Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these standards, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Winnipeg Supply Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only particular areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE test candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst
