Join Service Experts at Walk MS in Dallas and Fort Worth
Every week nearly 200 people are diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS is an autoimmune disorder that causes the body’s immune system to attack its own tissues or organs, causing nerve damage. Symptoms of MS can include spasticity, weakness in the limbs, visual issues, pain, and cognitive dysfunctions. A unique symptom of MS is sensitivity to warmer temperatures. In fact, it’s reported that 60% to 80% of people who have MS show excessive sensitivity to increases in their core body temperature.
Not only is this sensitivity a symptom, it also exacerbates other symptoms.
Since even the smallest rise in core body temperature (from .25 to .50 a degree) can cause symptoms to worsen, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning cares greatly about this cause. While we enjoy being involved in our neighborhoods and give back where we can, this disease and all the issues that come with it hold a special place in our hearts.
Calverley Service Experts in Fort Worth will be participating in Walk MS on Saturday, April 2nd at Trinity Park in Fort Worth and Service Experts Plano, Service Experts Dallas, and Levy and Son Service Experts will be at Walk MS on Saturday, April 9th at Addison Circle Park in Addison. If you plan on being there, come by and say hi – we would love to see you! If you aren’t able to make it or won’t be in the DFW area, you can always give to help raise money and awareness for the National MS Society or find a walk in your area.
Given the climbing temperatures, everyone should be conscientious, stay hydrated, and take breaks as needed. If you or a loved one has MS, please remember these tips from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to ease the effect of the heat:
· Remain in an air-conditioned setting during times of extreme heat and humidity. If an air conditioner is necessary to help minimize the symptoms of MS, the cost of this equipment may be tax deductible if the practitioner has written a prescription for it.
· Use cooling products such as vests, neck wraps, and bandanas, during exercise or outdoor activity, or pre- and post-cool.
· Wear non-constricting, “breathe-able” clothing.
· Icy drinks such as “slushes” or popsicles may provide interim relief.
· Use an oscillating fan during indoor exercise.
We are excited to help create a world free of MS and we want to thank the National Multiple Sclerosis for their hard work and dedication to ending this awful disorder. We hope to see you there!
